KDKA Extra Effort Award winner Alexandra Warble received her award from Bob Pompiani (right) in a program at the school. Alexandra’s tennis coach, Jess Zeremski (left), nominated her for the award.

Pittsburgh Carrick High School senior Alexandra Warble was presented KDKA television’s Extra Effort Award by Bob Pompiani at an assembly on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Alexandra, well known for a flawless 4.0 GPA and extra-curricular activities at Carrick High School, manages to give more than 500 community service volunteer hours to the Veterans, Primary Care Pharmacy, the Girl Scouts of America and other worthwhile causes every year.

Alexandra was nominated by her tennis coach, Jess Zeremski. She was chosen from hundreds of applicants that were nominated by instructors from their schools. The Carrick High senior has been accepted to the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy program upon graduation. Those who ask her why she chose a career path in pharmacy hear, “I chose a career in medicine the first time I received a toy first-aid kit and a lab jacket with my name embroidered on it.” Alexandra has a list of awards and volunteer recognitions that put her in a Who’s Who category all of her own.

The daughter of Barry and Linda Warble of Carrick, she has two brothers: Adam, in graduate school at Carnegie Mellon University, and Andrew, who is currently attending the University of Pittsburgh where he is a member of the marching band. Alexandra intends to join her brother in the band at Pitt and has kept pace with both of them and their list of accomplishments as bagpipers and performers.

Her youngest sister April is a sophomore at Carrick High School. She too plays the bagpipes, trumpet and enjoys dance and acting. Both Alexandra and April starred in the Carrick High School play House of Blue Leaves this past week.
