Carrick alumni to honor nine at luncheon
July 16, 2013 | Vol. 73 No. 51
Eight graduates of Carrick High and a retired music director will be honored at the Ninth Annual Carrick High Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni installation at the South Hills Country Club on Sunday, Aug. 11.
The group to be honored includes: Butler County Commissioner Dale Pinkerton, Class of 1959; David A. Bielski, retired union organizer who represented many municipal union members in northwestern Pennsylvania, Class of 1962; retired US. Navy Wave Lt. Commander and Brentwood high school teacher Eleanor Berge, Class of February 1942; and, World War II hero retired U.S. Army Captain James Fowler who fought at Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941 and in the “Battle of the Bulge” in Belgium, Class of June 1940.
Also, renowned church organist and music teacher Carol Forster Coles, Class of 1957; all star educator and retired middle school teacher Harold Marks, Jr ., Class of 1965; CEO and president of his leadership coaching and development company Rande S. Somma of Bloomfield, Michigan, Class of 1969; the director for 20 years of the Carrick High Alumni Association Paul “Bucky” Harrison, Class of June 1948; and, retired award winning Carrick High Marching Band music director and teacher James E. Kraus, who taught at Carrick High for 22 years.
Each will be awarded with the coveted Carrick High Alumni medallion.
In addition Jean Fink, who is retiring after 38 years as a director on the Pittsburgh Board of Education, will be recognized by the alumni association.
The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Grand Ball Room of the country club. Reservations are needed to attend.
