The annual Community Cornfest will be held under the great oak trees at Carrick’s Phillips Park on Saturday, Aug. 17 from noon to 6 pm.

Friends and neighbors will join in for a day of musical entertainment for adults with events and games for the kids. Fresh corn and a vast array of food and refreshments will be on sale as well as arts/crafts items from various non-profits.

Organizers note the entertainment, for people of all ages, will be held both outside in the park and inside the facilities.

The traditional opening ceremonies will begin at noon with the award winning Pittsburgh Carrick High School Marching Band. Entertainment will continue with the Bhutanese Dancers, top folk singer Cathasaigh, blue grass band The Seams, two CAPA student bands and the local rock group Radiation.

Local non-profit organizations will provide a variety of food and refreshments during the entertainment. Information on a wide range of local resources and businesses will also be presented to help residents be aware of what’s available and what’s happening in their community.

There is plenty of space in the park for more crafts artisans and home crafters. Everyone is welcome. Organizers note a small $20 donation from sellers is required to help offset funds for the entertainers. Informational booths are free. Contact the carrickcommunitycouncil@gmail.com, www.carrickpa, or 412-339-0808 for more information.

Organizers noted they are still gratefully accepting any late donations and a final list of all contributors will be available at the Cornfest.

Phillips Park is at the intersection of Parkfield and Spokane Avenues, across the street from Carrick High School in Carrick. Parking is available in the Carrick High School lot.
